Course Details

  • Perform comprehensive content and structural editing on manuscripts
  • Apply copy editing for consistency and flow
  • Implement thorough proofreading and fact-checking processes, as well as using the standard BSI proofreading marks
  • Maintain consistent style per publishing house guidelines

Day 1:

  • Content editing strategies to improve narrative flow and enhance readability
    Ensuring cohesive storylines and character arcs in fiction
    – Fact-checking and substantive editing for non-fiction works
  • • Applying copy editing techniques for clarity and consistency
    Using style sheets to maintain consistency across books

Day 2:

  • Implementing thorough proofreading techniques, including proof-reading and using BSI proof-reading marks, to eliminate errors
    – Catching contextual spelling and grammar errors in books
    – Reviewing formatting, layout, and typographic styles

The course is designed for those wishing to work in editorial and proofreading and work in books and related publishing. The course is suitable for both those changing career direction and those already in publishing and requiring refresher training. The course is very thorough and provides delegates with practical and solid skills required for an editorial role in book publishing.
